When you see this woman flip-flop regarding her obvious, two-faced bitchy comment about Biden's age, you just have to wonder, is McCain really going to let her go to the debate at all?
Hope there's no crisis at the last minute, or anything like that.
Here's a clip from Huffington Post -- sorry for the commercial at the top of it.
I hope Biden doesn't pull one punch.
I wouldn't.

Not TGIF, but OSIS
I tried to put my finger on it, but couldn't. All day long I couldn't place the vague "something's-not-quite-right" vibe which has been hanging in the air.
Was it because McCain may add an additional horrific 4 years of mismanagement to our previous 8 ones?
Is it because we're told the economy just went down the tubes?
Well, as my daughter asked me for a second time if I would please tuck her in bed (Really meaning: 'Mom? Can you come in and can we talk in the dark until one of us falls asleep?') that I finally realized what was also going on:
It's Sunday. And Sundays suck.
So I wondered, Is there any scientific reason why Sunday's suck so much? Or is it the obvious? The party's over. Tomorrow it's back to school, (or work) again?
Maybe, as discussed in the link to Ot's Sunday Afternoon and Here Come the Blahs, a New York Times article there's a biological reason for this feeling.
But, right now, it doesn't matter because, the truth is, right now it's lights out. It's get up bright and early because that's how it is all week long.
But, for now, OSIS. (Oh, shit, it's Sunday.)

What my Republican neighbors see when they look at me
What has me confused a bit, is if the video below is real. What do you think?

What health issue is McCain hiding and why won't he release his records?
What is the serious health problem John McCain and the GOP doesn't want us to know about?
Tell John McCain and Republicans they need to release all his health records now!
Pass this on.
Graphic film footage linking Sarah Palin to murder of Alaskan wolves
Note* This video is not for kids to see. Do not let your little ones see this film.
This is a very grim, gritty YouTube piece that very clearly spells out the grisly, barbaric actions of Arial Wolf Killing (Extinction) at the hands of Sarah Palin.
If she's not entirely ignorant, then she's evil. Your pick.
We need to stop Sarah Palin right now.

A crystal ball prediction: Palin will be pressured to quit by own party.

Okay, yeah. Sure, it's just a hunch.
But, given the behavior of these same people who have been in power for the past 8 years, it's not a huge stretch to predict this happening.
It's a long shot based on nothing more than body language, patterns of behavior and social psychology. This prediction is like Creationism -- No science needed.
It's also based on evidence that even the most conservative of pundits appear to be mighty worried about Palin, too.
It's just that I think Republicans are probably pretty freaked out now regarding what an obvious mistake picking Palin was, that they they'll want nothing more to do with her. They'll just try to get rid of her and will do so by trying to get her to decide to leave. My prediction is that they'll pressure her to make it appear it was her idea to "bow out" for some B.S. "patriotic" reason. That's just my own little crystal ball prediction.
And note, that while Ms. Palin claims she doesn't "blink," she may get pretty fed up with what I imagine to be a huge amount of growing pressure for her to go. The GOP knows a thing or two about pressuring folks. I would not want to be in her shoes right now.
The truth is, egos as fragile as Palin and McCain simply do not have the tenacity, grit and smarts to stick fights out to the finish. Once it appears they may lose, they'll find a way to wiggle away from responsibility for their actions once exposed for what they really are -- selfish, uninformed, spoiled brats. And, apparently, on the losing side.
The nature of John McCain is to throw hissy fit after hissy fit, and to do a 180 on anything that doesn't immediately help him out. He's an tired, old, cranky senior citizen who knows he's just about to lose and lose big.
He's desperate and will ditch Palin faster than the wife he dumped upon returning from Vietman once he finally "understands" that Palin is not the ratings magnet he'd been told she would be. What I'm curious to learn is this -- Who's the one advising McCain these days? This, I would find interesting.
In any event, I just want to remind people that John McCain is no "maverick. " That was a crappy car they stopped making in the 1970s. Nope. John McCain is a spoiled bratty old guy who wants to be king, now.
For the record -- This is a maverick.

The Maverick.
Paul Newman -- One of Good Guys

Never just a pretty face or just a Hollywood actor.
Paul Newman was so much more than that. He was an artist, activist, philanthropist and a great family man.
Today's loss will be felt far and wide, especially since he was a hero for so many of the right reasons. And God knows these days we need all the heroes we can get.
Paul Newman, you will be missed.
Video montage of John McCain's history of failures and lies
Why don't you take a look at John McCain, in John McCain's OWN words.
Did you know that McCain Spent his Birthday cutting birthday cake with Bush in Arizona while New Orleans drowned in Katrina?
That's just some of what you'll learn by watching this.
This video is proof that McCain is probably the worst idea possible for our country at this time. Pass it on.
Thank you YouTube!

McCain singing the "Bomb Iran" song Obama referred to in Debate
Anyone curious about what that "bomb Iran" song was that Obama reminded McCain about having sung "for a joke?"
First I found a youtube clip of his thoughtless rambling at length and below is a MoveOn.Org reaction to his revealing gaff.
Below that is the MoveOn.Org reaction to it.
But, here's what's so disgusting and revealing about who this angry, arrogant, petulant jerk really is: You have to then view this last clip where he not only defends his irresponsible "song-joke" but slams the idea that anyone should think it out of place.
McCain Responds to "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran" Video on WNYC radio:
This guy is so out of touch with the rest of the world that the concept of putting him and Palin in the Whitehouse just seems like the purest form of insanity.

john mccain is one chicken drama queen.
Okay -- So, the Mississippi debate was tonight.
It only proved to me that McCain can't look anyone in the eye. Ever. Because he's still a big fat baby.
He whines and slimes and can't come up with any real facts and figures to show he has any idea how to plan for a presidency that will be burdened by all the financial mess at hand. But, I don't think he had any answers to start with other than not to tax his friends and family.
Barack had real answers and a gracious persona.
I don't know -- clearly I'm wildly biased, but in my opinion Mccain looked pathetic and Obama looked presidential.
But, I think Mccain is spoiled, GOP butthead, so the bar is kind of low for him to begin with.
Anyone else care to weigh in on tonight's debate?
How do you think it went?

Can't get Beck outta my head after his Hwyd Bwl concert
I just feel like posting some Beck videos because other than freaking out about the news these days, his work's really haunted me since his concert -- I guess it was very evocative since so many images from the show keep playing in my mind, both musically and visually.
One moment in particular, one tune from last week I just can't get out of my head was his "Where It's At." I'm so happy someone caught it for posterity for me -- Enjoy.
*Seriously. I have to tell you, this really was the tune that moved into the harddrive of my brain faster than a lower eastside tenement squatter.
Also, just now found someone else's upload of some cool moments from last week's super fine concert at the Hollywood Bowl Concert 9/20/08. Enjoy.
I just saw his video of Guess I'm Doing Fine and was struck by how much he reminds me of Gram Parsons. Especially the way he shot this particular video.
Hm. At one point I wondered if it would be too far a musical stretch to imagine any possible future collaborations between Beck and Jim Lauderdale, another musical pioneer, granted, Americana genre, but avid Gram Parsons fan.
Just to update my thoughts about that:
Beck and Lauderdale? Whoa! Huh? Waayyyy too much of a musical stretch. What the fuck was I thinking?
No, no, no....

Absentee Ballot -- possible dirty tricks?
I just got an email questioning if Pete or I had heard anything about a Carl Rove trick involving fake absentee ballots and wanted to know if we'd heard anything about it's validity.
Subject: Possible Absentee Ballot Fraud
I don't know if this is true but it sound like a Carl Rove Trick. There is nothing about it on snopes.com
The story is all over Progressive Talk Radio today about the McCain
campaign sending absentee ballot applications to registered democrats
or people that have donated to Obama's campaign. These ballots are
deliberately misleading and have postage paid return addresses that are
for an election clerk that is outside of your city or town. What this
will end up doing is either having your vote not counted, or if you
return one of these, they will cite you for election fraud, saying that
you already voted absentee. These ballots are only being sent out in
'purple states' and this is a big deal. This is called voter caging,
and is a huge problem.
The McCain campaign is stealing this election as we speak. Please get
this information out to as many people as you can and tell anyone you
know who has received one of these ballots that they need to contact
their city election clerk or the supervisor of elections immediately.
Also call the local media and let them know what is going on.
The main stream media is never going to cover this so we have to depend
on our ground campaign to get the word out to our voters.
Here's what Pete just came up with at this time:
According to credible media reports, some absentee ballots sent out by the
McCain campaign in Wisconsin had incorrect return addresses:
McCain campaign in Wisconsin had incorrect return addresses:
The GOP in Wisconsin blames it on database errors:
Dems, though, think it's dirty tricks:
Huffington Post writer thinks it's something watch, not sure yet how dirty
or accidental:
From this, I'd say it looks hard to say one way or the other, whether it's
dirty tricks or just more bureaucratic incompetence. If there are guns
smoking, the story will get bigger, I'm sure....
* Also note the odd phrase "The main stream media..." -- this jumps out at me looking a bit loaded. Not sure about this.
And my advice to all of us is to avoid anything that inspires knee jerk reactions until November 5th, 2008.

More video evidence why Sarah Palin is a total moron
More of that jaw dropping interview with Katie Couric.
From CBS Last night, we showed you what Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had to say about the economy (in case you missed it, she said we're at some risk of repeating the Great Depression). Tonight, we'll show you what Katie asked her about foreign policy - and where Palin said she stands. First, a little taste of what's to come.
Here's a link to the CBS transcripts as well as the video
Just a couple of questions, here.
WHAT WAS MCCAIN THINKING?! He met with her ONLY once. Once.
HOW STUPID DOES THE GOP THINK WE ARE THAT WE WOULDN'T NOTICE HOW STUPID THIS VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE REALLY IS? It's offensive this is what they chose.
HOW DUMB DO THEY THINK WE ARE NOT TO KNOW WHY THEY ARE AVOIDING A DEBATE NOW?
This is absurd. That woman is can't keep her kids out of a meth lab, what makes us think she can deal with Putin?
It's crazy.
It should just go to Obama by default at this point.

Why marriage, like education, is a fundamental right...
Someone (Eliza Rubenstein) far more eloquent than I wrote a fine piece about why it's imperative for Californians to vote NO on Prop 8.
50 years later, rhetoric still the same

It was a landmark decision from the Supreme Court. It challenged assumptions, traditions, and — as some saw it — one of America’s, and God’s, most sacred institutions. From the public and the press, responses came swiftly and passionately, some heralding the move as a victory for justice, many others decrying it as an affront and an abomination.
“No power on earth can compel [us] to do something that is against the law of God and nature,” wrote one newspaper’s editor soon after the ruling was issued. “The Supreme Court, in its deadly coil, is about to strike down our sacred traditions,” said a letter in another.
A United States senator lamented, “The justices abandoned their role as judges of the law and organized themselves into a group of social engineers.”
And a noted religious leader got straight to the point: “I don’t think these judges are able to prove that their decision pleases God.”
But they weren’t talking about the California Supreme Court’s May 16 decision to legalize same-gender marriage. They were talking about Brown vs. Board of Education, the United States Supreme Court’s 1954 ruling that school segregation was unlawful and unjust.
Today, those reactions seem old-fashioned at best — but they sound eerily similar to some of the objections to marriage equality that we’ve heard since May, and that we’ll hear even more as November nears. In 1954, opponents of desegregation frequently invoked the Bible, warned of the dangers to children and families, and decried the bucking of a tradition that had served them handsomely for centuries. In 2008, the issue at hand has changed, but the rhetoric, sadly, hasn’t.
Those who believed, half a century ago, that a policy of “separate but equal” adequately fulfilled America’s best promise were, most of us now agree, on the wrong side of history. Today we recognize their passionate defense of tradition as a function more of anxiety than of integrity. And few us would argue that a loving God would cast a disapproving eye upon the march toward equality.
Then, some feared that the American way of life was disappearing. Now, we understand that it was only beginning to come into fullness.
This November, as we vote on Proposition 8, Californians have the opportunity to be on the right side of history — to make a decision that our children and grandchildren, a half-century from now, can recall with pride, not embarrassment. You need not be personally comfortable with the notion of same-gender marriage to vote against the amendment; you need only be willing to acknowledge — as future generations surely will, regardless of what happens in November — that marriage, like education, is a fundamental right.
Our “no” votes on Proposition 8 represent a refusal to enshrine inequality in our state constitution — and an abiding faith that the “tradition” most worth preserving is our nation’s long history of moving, steadily if not always simply, toward the light of fairness and freedom.

Katie Couric exposes Sarah Palin. The only thing green is her experience.
Wow, what was McCain thinking when he picked this dud?
Just hang in there to the end of the interview. This should be beyond embarassing for the GOP.
She's sounds like so over her head. And this woman is going to be a "heartbeat away?"
Unbelievable.
And McCain wants more time before they debate?
GIVE US A BREAK.

The conclusion of Eric Schaeffer's "I Can't Believe I'm Still Single." (Season One)

So. We finally made it.
We all finally saw Eric Schaeffer finally get to Mecca -- Maine to meet the one of two women he obsessed about ad nauseum for weeks, now. (One of whom was Liza O'Brien, now married to Conan O'Brien, and the other was this mystery woman he once met and thought now might be perfect for him.
Gee, that sounds like another old guy's delusional hopes riding on a younger woman...Who is that? Oh, yeah, McCain.
In any event.
Eric's show is officially over and done with. It ended unceremoniously, but I feel obligated to write about the last show. Some sort of conclusion to my reaction to his Showtime series.
And I'm going to make this my last post about this guy, who, surprisingly, has quite a following, let me tell you.
Anyhow. What did I think of his show?
Here's my Un-Review.
First of all: This guy can make money. Seriously. He knows how to sell ice to Eskimos, is my first reaction, because he always gets funding. And he always delivers something that come hell or high water, we watch. If I were a producer, I'd pay attention to that. Forget art. He sells stuff. Bottom line. Somehow, whether or not it's "a good thing," this guy delivers. So, kudos, to Eric Schaeffer.
But, what did I personally make of having hung in there with him on what seemed like one very long, very lonely journey? I don't know...I feel like whacking him in the head, but that's the yenta in me, I guess. Which isn't saying a lot since I'm a total WASP.
But, it's just irritating to watch someone so convinced he needs one certain kind of woman and really isn't that open to veering away from the obvious.
Okay, I digress. I just helped the kids out with their homework and I'm cooking pasta (oh, no! It's white pasta! Aaah!) with non-vegan flakes of garlic salmon. And after that I'm probably going to pour myself a glass of Chardonnay, when I'm almost done with the dishes. I know that in Mr.-Perfect-Hippie's-world, these kinds of choices just render me just one lush, sucky mom. Que sera, sera.
But, whatever. What's the alternative? Feeding a family on organic produce (which doesn't really last too long in the kitchen), plates of heaped high with vegan meatloaf served with a tall glass of tepid spring water? My poor kids. Not to mention that I'd probably be one cranky mom, if I were that "Brattleboro, VT" 24/7.
No, I do the best I can. I may look boho, but deep down I can be something of a TV & Target girl, as well. So, sue me.
Don't get me wrong: Hey, I think living that pure is great.
But that kind of purity is costly. So...if you want to live that well, you probably need to have beacoup de moola. The kind of money filmmakers and TV show hosts make, not newspaper reporters.
I digress again: I'm trying to finish this post before I serve dinner.
So, Mr. Schaeffer's final, last show.
We missed it the night it originally aired out here in California, and so we didn't actually get around to seeing it on the DVR till last night.
My reaction? Let's just say I'm not too surprised he's still single.
Truthfully, yeah, I felt a little sorry for him. He didn't find true love. We all root for the underdog, and he struck out. That was, well, sad. He was so convinced there was a pot of gold in Maine at this wedding with this cute, skinny yoga-loving, younger woman.
BUT -- Turns out she just kind of broke up with someone.
AND -- The first question out of this guy's mouth was something like "Do I look fat and ugly to you?" Or something equally not so great a thing to start conversation at the get go.
AND -- He comes on way too strong.
AND -- He seems way too scary needy to give any kind of relationship a chance.
AND -- Even his unusual family member interviews reveal he's a guy who has a very narrow ideas about what he wants in a relationship...
But, did anything surprise me? Touch me at the end of the show?
Yes.
Yes. I was surprised that I finally saw a guy at the end of his show who was shy, but lovely inside. Unfortunately, it wasn't Eric Schaeffer.
I was touched by the sweet openness of one of his last interviews. Of a guy he seems to have met by random chance at a yoga class. A man who lives alone with his dog and his cat in New Jersey who happens to be a retired fire fighter.
I have to tell you, this is the man who made my eyes tear up.
Here was this seemingly chance converstion "Mr. Me Again" was having with a stranger he met towards the end of his personal journey to find love on his book tour.
And the one man who turns out to be surprisingly open and nice and didn't have selfish expectations about the universe owing him a mail-order bride precisely the way he wanted her: (You may have heard this before, Cute, pretty, skinny, young, sexy, smart and sober with a big helping of hippie-chick on top.) -- The guy wasn't even Eric, it was a stranger. Did Eric even know how he upstaged himself with this clip? Who edited this? Oh, never mind.
Okay I digress.
But, since this is my own damn, blog, let's just pretend I'm really talking to Mr. Schaeffer. (And why not? He seems to have had an intimate conversation with every other woman between 12 and 70 on the planet.)
So, If I could really talk to him right now -- at this moment I'd probably tell him the following:
Imaginary conversation:
"Look, Eric, just work. Let her come to you. Focus on doing good work and the person will find you.
"A relationship can only happen once we get out of our own way. Whoever you inevitably find will probably not look like you expected her to. That's real life. Life isn't a script...bla, bla, bla...You know all this. BUT then WHY do you obsess about not finding true love?
"I'll bet one tenth of the fish you threw back in the sea would be enough to keep Mr. New Jersey Fireman happy. All he wants is real companionship. You want the moon. So? So, okay. But, don't throw a pity party when the mail-order bride doesn't materialize just because you wish she would."
If he cried, the way he did in the last three shows, then I'd probably say it in a gentler way, but, I'd still say it. Someone should.
Right now my message to any single women who might be reading this because they're still a tiny bit curious about who "the real Eric Schaeffer is" (and I do know you're out there, because some of you have written me.)
Well, I guess my message to any women considering Eric as future relationship-material, is this:
Find the fire fighter! (Just tactfully bring along a box of Crest White Strips, too, that's all.)
Fire fighters have pretty hot bodies and this guy already knows how to form a commitment (True, it's with his dog and cat, but that's still saying a lot!)
And if he does yoga then he's probably into being in touch with his feelings and lives a fairly healthy life: FIND THE FIRE FIGHTER!
I mean, hello? He might not be rich and famous, but he holds his own! He owns a house within driving distance of NYC, for God's sake. No, he's not famous, he's nice.
Like I said, I can be a real yenta, I guess.
And my message to Eric? You only think you want a wife...If you really wanted one, you'd have one by now. That's what I think.
Whatever. It's time for dinner.
By the way, considering the way Eric Schaeffer continued to obsess about the long-dead romance he had with Conan O'Brien's wife, I had to admit, I was curious about what kind of goddess she must be. So, I found these photos of her.
She's very pretty. She's certainly tall and skinny.
She sure beats an escort in clown make-up.
OH, look! Whole Foods? I rest my case.

Oh, and here are a list of links to some other stories about Eric Schaeffer, for those of you still curious about the guy.

MGMT, Spoon & BECK @ Hollywood Bowl - The un-review

Last night's concert featured not one, but three astonishing artists under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl. It was, trust me, a great night of music. But, I am no critic. No reviewer. I'm just a grateful tag-along as another reviewer's "date."
Don't expect any great musical insights from me, for anything along those lines you'll have to see what you think of my husband's review of the show today in The Orange County Register.
Anyhow -- This is just my own take in my remedial, amature blog which sports about 20 hits a day. Max.
So, here's the micro-amateur-review.
It was dazzling.
We had amazing seats. MGMT, who opened, was terrific. (I'm a huge fan of this group, so I was walking on air from their first familiar notes.)
Following their set, Spoon came out played a really mesmerizing, lengthy set, as well. They were really great, too. I finally heard more of their work, last night, meaning that now I need to seek and devour their cd's to obsess over how cool I think they were, too.
Last night, was one of those nights where on numerous occasions I just had these waves of goose bumps come over me. It was a sensory appreciation of being cloaked in some of the best contemporary music available all gathered in one night for us. I'd be watching and taking it all in, when all of a sudden another wave of shuddery, goosebump-y happiness would just wash over me. (and this was sober, mind you.) I'd probably have to be revived with smelling salts if I'd gone to Coachella.
Naturally, Beck, was off-the-charts good. Musically, he was sizzling -- In terms of connecting with the audience and other members of the band, he seemed a bit aloof, I thought. Never offensively so, but I don't feel like I can tell what kind of person he is at all after having seen his show last night. Had sort-of that Dylan hide-behind-my-face thing going on.
(Honestly - I think Beck is so intreguing and so, so talented therefore, so very sexy (anyone that talented is sexy regardless of their gender or age) can you seriously blame me for not wanting more?
His lanky circa 1978 long hair sort-of kept us all a bit at a distance, however. I wanted to read his face as he tore through his set. Sometimes, even with two giant plasma screens focused on this man-behind-the-mike-behind-the-hair-under-the-hat dwarfing the stage, it was challenging to always get a read on him.
Even when we could see his face, he's something of a "deadpan" read. But, perhaps this is him being true to his work these days. I get that. I'm just a Beck fan who wanted as much as I could get, that's all.
Over all his attire was what I'd classify as a 80's low tech look. This presentation of the legendary Beck did, frankly, surprise me -- as did the inclusion of a far more complex, instrumentally influenced sound. I suppose his new work has evolved into a richer, more multi-layered form of musical expression. It worked, even if it does take his audience into a darker, more introspective and, possibly, more...uhm. I looking for a better word for this, but I keep coming back to the word "depressing," place. But, hey. I guess that just means his work is relative to what's happening globally, these days, which only makes me love him that much more for exploring that musically.
The feeling I got from the last part of his set, which included his dad conducting the LA Phil. behind him under a huge computerized LED screen with 1 or 2 dimensional images flashing in the background, all lent one to an overall feeling that we were just blips in the sound bite of our existence. Especially so during his song "Replica."
This song was haunting, but entirely upstaged by a futuristic clip playing over and over of asian faces peering into some sort of monitor (the audience) over and over during the song. It certainly added to the "we are all just faces and meaningless and disconnected." Hey, I have no idea if this is what he was going for, but it sure hit me that way. It was kind of, well, a bummer even though the music was haunting and beautiful. But, still I like, "Fuck. We're all meaningless, in the end, aren't we?"
Which, possibly, we are.
Let's face it, anyone paying attention to the world these days is not going to run around with a "Fuck it, let's just party!" attitude. The world's going to hell in a hand bucket faster than a Republican can shoot something in the face, so what artist paying attention to any of this could possibly run around in silly clothes and roll around in purple satin sheets under a mirror ball last night? At least, not these days. Hopefully, another day.
Anyhow, he was low tech on the style-o-meter and bit shaggy grunge meets the 80's. Not unappealing at all, just surprisingly low tech for a guy who is so very hip and cool and, well, adorable.
The show was wonderful, though.

At one part of the concert I felt bad for the assembled, (perfectly on pitch) orchestra their very first song joining Beck up on stage. There seemed to be an amplification issue going on that inevitably distracted from the music. And I did cringe inside for all of those talented musicians working so hard and having their sound become so distorted and ugly. Unfortunately it did ruin what was clearly a beautiful piece, otherwise. I know that had to not be what they wanted, but they fixed it after that one. The orchestra blended seamlessly after that first piece. It was beautiful.
Hey, whose complaining? Not me. -- I loved every minute of the show.
Sadly, we don't really get how to use our new digital camera so all our jpgs of the show were really bad. I'll have to go troll Flickr now and see who does know how to use their camera.
In any event, last night Pete and I drove home in happy, but exhausted silence. I have no idea what he wrote -- He's in the dining room right now bouncing it back and forth with the editor - I'm sure it's much better than this.
But, I just wanted to say I loved finally getting to see Beck live. I love his work, love his voice, his music. Clearly he's a colossal talent who hopefully we'll hear alot more from in the future.
Like Spoon, I also heard many pieces of music I had not previously been exposed to yet, so now I can go out and hungrily seek and devour more Beck, as well, to, hopefully, get closer to what this very interesting, astonishingly talented guy has to say.
In short, last night was a great night .

Bernhard Vs. Palin = Freedom of speech

Hello.
I just feel like I need to add my own two cents on the Sandra Bernhard rant reaction.
You must know what I mean, the whole "NY DAILY NEWS Sandra Bernhard issues 'gang rape' warning to Sarah Palin" fiasco.
What do I think? I don't think it was entirely appropriate, but I do think Sarah Bernhard has the right to perform whatever she wants to. It's called Freedom. Don't like it? DONT WATCH IT.
For the record: A lot of people (for some very credible reasons) have real issues with the way this "rant" went. I don't agree with a great deal of the vitriol, but I respect the right of any artist (I didn't say elementary school teacher. I didn't say doctor. I didn't say law maker..what I said was "artist".) to perform whatever they feel like performing.
I think she's often very funny and she's a creative comedian who got pissed off and sort-of kind-of fucked up on the direction the rant went at the time...and went a little too far.
I think she's still a (rightful) Palin hater (And, honestly, who isnt?) but I think she got on a Lenny Bruce-esque riff and kind of sort of said some well, uh, shit (for lack of a better word) that she'll hopefully kind of sort of apologize for later on. (Rape jokes -- never funny under ANY circumstances. Period.), hating non-jews, hating any woman for her appearance...etc. Not cool of the usually quite funny SB, but it's comedy, folks. So, get over it.)
I think it's unfortunate her comic energies were not run before a good friend before she debuted it on the internet, but que sera, sera. We'll all live. And live a lot better than if Palin is given one moment in Washington DC.
Relax, folks. It's comedy. Get over it. There are real things out there to make fun of and be worried about. Worry about having freedoms at all.
Like freedom of speech.
Very cool group/video I actually think I discovered before Pete did!
So, my husband, Pete, (or "Pedro" of Pedro And The Watcher at Orange County Register) who usually kicks my ass when it comes to finding cool new music finally was scooped by me in our house.
He has a gig teaching journalism in Long Beach and said the some of his students started wearing T-Shirts with this group's name on it, but he hasn't heard them yet. (Well, I did.) So, for once I get to introduce something to him!
Now that I know who they are I guess we missed a chance to see them as he said he thought they may have come through town recently, in any event, it took Prince at Bamboo Nation (As usual.) to get me to really take a look at these guys (Sorry, honey. I have a new gay bfriend. & I haven't even met him!) but this video is great. Yeah, I really like them, too.
If you've never heard them before check them out...They're different.
How often do you hear that?

McCain's YouTube Problem Just Became a Nightmare
McCain's YouTube Problem Just Became a Nightmare
There's no question John McCain is getting a free ride from the mainstream press. But with the power of YouTube and the blogosphere, we can provide an accurate portrayal of the so-called Maverick. We can put the brakes on his free ride!
Since we first released The Real McCain a year ago, our REAL McCain series has garnered close to 2 million views, with over 13,000 comments and tens of thousands more in petition signatures! Clearly, John McCain's record is something the public wants to discuss, and yet the corporate media is doing NOTHING to present the truth. We feel obliged to continue countering the mainstream media's love of McCain. And so we thought it was high time for a sequel: The Real McCain 2.
We're doing everything to get the facts out there about McCain. Join us in making a concerted effort to tell the story that corporate media refuses to tell. E-mail this video to all of your friends and family members, news blogs and other local media outlets. And don't forget to Digg it!
According to Cliff Schecter, author of The Real McCain: Why Conservatives Don't Trust Him And Why Independents Shouldn't: "It is dangerous for a democracy when a presidential candidate can lie with impunity, change positions on a whim, and physically and verbally threaten others and virtually none of it is reported by a besotted media eagerly awaiting the next moment when he might slap their backs in friendship."
The mainstream press may not do their job, but we can surely do ours. It is crucial that we alert the public to the REAL McCain, and it is crucial we act now, before it's too late.

"The Mommy Wars" - or - How partisan politics made the playground feel that much smaller
Okay, I give up. I have so many girl friends who have told me that they're not changing and they still intend on voting Republican that I decided not to stew, but to do something about it.
So, I wrote this letter.
9-14-08
To whom it may concern:
Something different is going on. Everywhere I go. People are talking about their own politics and it's changed my entire landscape. I'm not sure if it's been called this already but if I had to describe it, I'd have to call it "The Mommy Wars."
Let me explain.
Over the past eight years I began watching the news so closely that I (incorrectly) started assuming most other people who follow the news were also probably Democratic. If this sounds elitist, I apologize, it's just that I simply didn't understand how one could learn the cause and effect of all that's happened during the last eight years could not be opposed to it.
But, now I stand corrected: Apparently, my beliefs have me in the minority. And I find I'm suddenly thrust into "The Mommy Wars."
For the past 12 years I have been surrounded by all sorts of people who I live near, or work with, or who go to school with and play with my children.
Recently I have been shocked to discover how often I've stood alone in my support of Barack Obama.
In the past three weeks I have heard countless diatribes as to how and why the person I'm talking to still intends to stick with their voting records and continue to vote Republican next November. And it does deeply sadden me.
This is what they must be referring to when they talk about "The Mommy Wars." Because, it's come between other women who I until recently would have lain my life down for. I don't know how to process this change in how politics have touched my personal life the ways it has.
I can see now, that my friend's Republican leanings have actually never changed since I've known them, I always accepted people for their differences and celebrated diversity and respected other people's point of view, so, so what if they vote for a party other than my own? Well, actually, it matters a lot.
Actually, things have changed now in ways I never expected. I've changed. And I didn't realize how very much I take this next election personally, but I do. And how other the people in this country's vote matters deeply to me. Every single vote matters to me, now. Especially the votes of the people who I daily share my life with.
What's ironic is that this seems at first glance to be a mere "Party" issue. As if simply voting Republican Or Democratic is the bottom line here. It's much more complex than that. And anyone who tells you it's just a partisan battle is only trying to fool you.
Even though I have always previously voted democratic, if Teddy Roosevelt or Barry Goldwater were running for the Republican party today, I may very well have voted Republican. And why not? They were not radicals. They didn't have a personal agenda. They didn't think they were morally better than the rest of the country. They believed in separation of church and state. And they were financially conservative. They created our National Parks. And I love them for doing that.
But, the Republicans of today are not those of yesterday. Not by a long shot. I think the Republican party today is corrupt, selfish and immoral. Strong words. But, I do. They lie, they cheat and they steal. And they aren't even doing it for a good cause. (That I may actually respect.) But, they don't. They do it out of pure selfishness and reckless disregard for the planet, which is why I feel so strongly about it.
The concept of truly being conservative is so far and removed from what is Republican, now, that I am extremely worried for our planet, frankly.
As I see it, Republicans today are duplicitous. They say the care, but they don't.
The Bush Doctrine is radical and actually neo-conservative. This means they want to put illogical, medieval religious believes into our laws and schools. They don't want your brother or your daughter to be married to someone who happens to be their own gender. (For instance, Dick Cheney's daughter is married to another women. Why does his family get a judgemental pass on this?) So, tell me again, why is any of this the government's business?
Republicans (of today) think you should believe in God, (and not just any God, their God).
They do not think it matters that the ice caps are melting. And those hurricanes? So what? They don't live in New Orleans. Who gives a damn? They can just drill in the Arctic, now. Who cares that the Gulf of Mexico washed away in the new uber-storms of this century? Just let the Habitat For Humanity volunteers go out there for while. They like doing that kind of thing, anyway.
As I see it Republicans only want more oil and more money. And they will kill for it while calling it patriotic. That's wrong. It is immoral and frankly, un-American.
The nay-saying Sarah Palin's can call my concerns just "gloom and doom;" but I actually take the time to read the news. To read Time and Newsweek. To actually sit down and watch PBS and Frontline. I call it taking the time to learn the facts.
I wish things weren't this screwed up, but they are and the only way to begin work, is to begin work. It involves facing reality and making sacrifices which is what the Democratic party is about.
Maybe the parties of tomorrow will shift into something else, but for this election? It's about the environment and Iraq and how to put food on the table.
Over time I have realized that for me elections are deeply personal. They effect my life, and more so, the lives of my children.
I care deeply about this planet and I accept the moral responsibility to make choices I know will protect our planet We can win if we think out of the box and find new ways to survive, today. In fact, that is the only way to win. Squeezing the globe dry of oil is beyond counter-productive, it's stupid and evil.
Am I still not shocked and profoundly hurt that many of my "Mommy" friends don't intend veer from their long standing commitment to voting Republican in this next election? You bet. Who wouldn't want their friends to share the same beliefs? But, it's deeper than that. It means people are either that ignorant or that selfish. And in coming to grips with these differences amongst us, I realize that my world is different than it was a year ago, or eight years ago or a decade ago.
Perhaps my journey into "The Mommy Wars" is a far more common than I thought. Perhaps this partisan-social awkwardness isn't unique to other people either. What does seem different is: People are now actually talking about their beliefs.
And that's a good thing.
I think finding a common-truth for everyone is very challenging during these times. I wish it were otherwise, but this is a challenging time. I wish I could get people to absorb the facts without going into denial, but I can't. And in the end, they have my sympathy. Because in the end, their children will be injured by the choices we make right now. Today. And I know they love their children.
Look, I value my female friends and I will fight to keep them close to me, but this next election is different. It is personal. I care so much how people vote.
(Please note that regarding the subject "The Mommy Wars?" that I have not once mentioned Sarah Palin once. And I could have, and probably will another time, but not in this letter.)
Thanks for reading.

Clueless: The Palin - Charlie interview
Love this post, read this link.
It says 100% what I think, only so, so much better.
It says 100% what I think, only so, so much better.
Just something to cheer me up. Feist: MY MOON MY MAN
Okay, in a week where we had to re-watch 9-11, again. Had to accept that SP has energized the ignorant base, and see yet one more hurricane barrel toward the city everyone just got used to when Katrina washed their homes away -- I wanted to post something soothing and escapist.
Enjoy.
I love how the choreography incorporates the robotic industrial environment into such a wonderfully cohesive collaboration. (Suggesting urban isolation when in reality we all dance to the same beat.)
Who is her art director on these videos -- Very cool stuff. Kind of Pina Bausch-y and Like Water For Chocolate, too.
And there's her voice, like honey.
Okay, I think I'm ready to watch the rest of the Sarah - Charlie interview, now.
Maybe.

Matt Damon: My hero of the day
My husband sent me this clip, saying:
"matt damon can be your new fake boyfriend, it's ok"
"matt damon can be your new fake boyfriend, it's ok"
Eve Ensler's "Drill, Drill, Drill"
Eve Ensler, the American playwright, performer, feminist and activist best known for "The Vagina Monologues", wrote the following about Sarah Palin.
Drill, Drill, Drill
I am having Sarah Palin nightmares.
I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar bears.
I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.
But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.
I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never recover. But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with regularity.
Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as a metaphor. In her world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or gets better or evolves. She does not believe in global warming. The melting of the arctic, the storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of cancers, are all part of God's plan. She is fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."
Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.
She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.
Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking.
From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference. This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.
Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.
Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her private right. But when God and Guns come together in the public sector, when war is declared in God's name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.
I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence through invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us from dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on education and healthcare or whether we build more and more methods of killing. It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression.
If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.
Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone, in the floor of the sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?
Eve Ensler

Democrat "talking points" when encountering Republicans
A few "talking points" for those of us stunned speechless to discover that some people actually think the GOP is fine and that McCain would be a better choice than Obama.
And yes, there are plenty of these folks still around.
These are the people you work with, or who have children school or sports with your child. They may not watch CNN or MSNBC, but they do go to church and trust what is said there. They get their news from Fox News, but, they also vote.
This is why it's so important not to just walk away shaking your head. There's a lot of work to be done really try to bring the facts to them in a way that doesn't cause them to be defensive and angry.

Talking point regarding "lipstick on a pig"
____________________________________________
Republican : " Well, what about all those mean things Obama said about McCain's VP? She's the first woman VP ever, and listen to them! All they do is attack her non-stop!"
Democrat: "I understand that it might appear that way, but the reality is that Palin is no victim. Far from it.
Obama never called Palin names. His comment "Lipstick on a pig" is all just part of the name-gate the GOP is trying to create to make distract from the fact that Palin is under qualified and very deceitful in her speeches :
"Lipstick on a pig" is actually an old, old saying and had nothing to do with Palin, whatsoever, no matter how much the spin today may make it appear so. If you listen to the entire speech one can see what a stretch it would be to assume that was a personal attack.
The GOP spin-makers and the Republican/McCain camp is just making this issue up in an attempt to create a fake controversy to divert attention from their lack of genuine ideas for improving our country.
Plus, if it's so offensive to say that at all, then how can anyone justify McCain saying it in direct reference to Hilary Clinton's health plan? McCain called her far worse names at that time. (I'm sure we can find the clips on YouTube).
My point, being, what's good for the goose really should have been fine for Sarah Gander, if Obama had even said that at all. Which, he didn't.
But, how can any serious Republican justify McCain using the exact same lines he formerly used about Hilary and then act offended by this supposed statement? The answer: because it's all one big phony controversy.
But, see for yourself. Clip:

Talking point regarding Obama's "lack of experience"
____________________________________________
Republican: Well, how can you explain away the lack of experience Obama has?
Democrat: Hm, well, if you think that Obama "has no experience" when he actually has -- six years in the Illinois state legislature, as well as four years in the US Senate -- then you can how can you also explain why Republicans previously voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger in the recall and subsequent governor elections?
Arnold Schwarzenegger had zero political experience when he was their their candidate for governor. He had done nothing but make millions of dollars as an actor -- and that was enough experience for them to vote for him to lead the most powerful state in the nation.
--------------------------------------------
Okay. And I'll admit it: The whole time, here's what my real inner thoughts are. Here's the real subtext for me during the above (hypothetical) conversations:
-- "Uhm. Can you really be this thick? How can you not figure this out all on your own? What the f&*k is your problem that we actually have to debate this? Are you filthy rich? Do you even read? Ever Heard of Al Gore? Key word...Let me know if it rings a bell...okay, ready? "Global Warming?" No? Okay, let's try another..."Environment?" Do you care about any of this? Do you not get that Foreclosure is not a garage sale sign? Okay...Let's play a game: You be a wolf and I'll be Gov. Palin."
And here's what I hope my face and voice are saying: "I don't hate you. I know you have a right to feel as you do. I know you must have a good reason to think these things, and I'm going to not piss you off till I explain it as rationally as possible."

10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):
From Moveon.org's website.
10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):
1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.
2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."
3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.
4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."
5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.
6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.
7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."
8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.
9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."
10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.
John McCain is not who the Washington press corps make him out to be.

Sarah Palin kills wolves from the air. She pays people to murder them.
I found this video from a website that has done a very fine job of posting the horrific truth about McCain's irresponsible VP choice.
I can't say how important it is for America to really know the ugly, hateful truth about this cruel woman.
How disgusting is it that McCain chose her after meeting with her ONCE! That is the most ignorant, impulsive thing I've ever heard, how dare he put someone in such a high place of power so that he can "boost his ratings."
She's disgusting.
Watch this.

Cool mix of LCD Soundsystem and MGMT
Oh, hi.
Woke up, remembered that today is Sunday, September 7th. 2008.
Made a pot of coffee then slapped my forehead realizing, my God! I still hate Sarah Palin!
Anyhow. Thankfully, I know I do not walk alone, so I chose to distract myself from the irritating thought that she's "energized the republican base" by posting something entirely unrelated and diversionary.
Below is a cool video that some very clever bloke created by mixing two hit songs from two of my most fav (recent) groups.
LCD Soundsystem and MGMT.
It works! Enjoy.

Sarah Palin: The pitbull doth wear lipstick.
I just finished watching McCain's VP pick give her RNC speech and all I can say is, oh, my God. I just want someone to throw up with.
Seriously, that bitch is why I hate that bitch.
Naturally, my husband isn't here to hold the bucket because he "has to review Bob Dylan" tonight. I have to be sick to my stomach alone. As. Usual.
She even made a joke during her speech tonight.
She asked Republican convention goers,
"What's the difference between Hockey Moms and Pitbulls? -- Lipstick."
Well, tonight the pitbull doth wear lipstick.
Sarah Palin is pretty much everything I despise all in one tidy nut(shell.).
Truly, she has to be the most rabid, hateful, uber-snarky bitch I've ever seen...since Thatcher ranted at us during the 80's.
Her lies and her comments just disgusted me, but unfortunately it's the "football" mentality that I think will appeal to all the middle states. It's so easy to look "victorious" when mean and hateful and lying is seen as a character plus.
Will blog more later -- I'm just so grossed out at I had to share this right away.
She knows so much NOW about being a Vice President? She sure didn't until recently.
Since when is it okay to slime the democrats for their personal flaws, but if a Republican family has a mess to clean up it's un-American to comment on that? I guess that's about as fair as it is to make a snarky joke about how stupid it is to be concerned with a prisoner's rights during the Iraq War. She's a pitbull, alright.
So, my first question for her is this: If she's so smart and tough and pro-abstinence, then why is HER OWN CHILD AN UNWED PREGNANT KID? Is her kid from Juno? Or was she just inspired to by the movie?
What a perfect pin-up girl for Dick Cheney, she is.
OH, And if being Republican is so great, then tell me again, why you don't mention our current president, even once?
Thank you, oh never-changing Republican Party, for giving us yet one more Christian dominatrix to boss us all around..
I really needed another dose of that living here in Orange County, CA.
